Logicom, a distributor of ICT hardware, has won a bid for the exclusive distribution rights of Nokia products in the local market. The Cyprus-based company already distributes products of the Finnish brand in Greece and in Cyprus.
Nokia used to be distributed locally through Mabco, part of a Jordan-based group. Nokia had recently launched a tender to choose a new exclusive local distributor.
The new agreement will come into effect by mid-August. Sources close to the deal said the two old Nokia stores will be closed and replaced by seven new shops.
The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) regulation implemented by the Ministry of Telecommunications was an incentive to proceed with the agreement, as it will limit smuggling activities. “With the new regulation, competition in the market will be tough, but healthy,” sources said.
Logicom is a distributor of technology solutions and services across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Its portfolio includes many leading brands such as Adobe, APC, Cisco, HP, Intel, and Microsoft.
