The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted its four-year travel ban on Lebanon, allowing Emirati citizens to travel to the country starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The decision marks a significant step toward renewing ties between the two nations.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the move comes in implementation of directives from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is part of a broader effort to strengthen fraternal relations with Lebanon.
The lifting of the ban follows a recent official visit to the UAE by President Joseph Aoun. During the visit, President Aoun met with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, and the two leaders agreed to facilitate travel between the two countries and to establish mechanisms that support smoother mobility for citizens.
As part of the new procedures, Emiratis planning to travel to Lebanon must register with the ‘Tawajudi’ app. The app ensures effective communication in case of emergencies and requires travelers to provide their residence location, emergency contact details, and the purpose of their visit. The UAE Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to these measures to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
President Aoun, after calling the UAE President to thank him, declared: "He promised and he kept his promise."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in Lebanon welcomed the decision, describing it as a development that enhances fraternal ties and serves the mutual interests of both nations. The ministry also expressed hope for continued progress in Lebanon’s relations with all Arab countries, grounded in shared history and common destiny.
The UAE had imposed the travel restriction in 2021 due to regional instability and security concerns. The latest decision signals a warming of diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
