'We open, people die; we close, people die.’ Covid surge leaves Lebanon with no good options

A Covid-19 surge has killed almost as many people in January alone as died from the disease all last year. A hasty reopening after the lockdown is dangerous but with the Lebanese turning desperate and more than half the country living below the poverty line, a further economic pain could be just as lethal.
