The Ministry of Public Works and Transport said it will soon launch an international tender for a $70 million project to build a second terminal at the Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport.

Terminal 2 will be dedicated to chartered and low-cost flights, and pilgrims.

The ministry said the project will be carried out by the private sector and will create hundreds of jobs.

The airport was already exceeding its six million passenger capacity before the financial crisis and Covid-19 pandemic. The Middle East Airlines (MEA) expects the number of airport travelers to reach 20 million by 2030.

The Ministry of Tourism said that 10,000 to 12,000 passengers a day are expected to arrive to Lebanon over the next three months.
