The Central Bank (BDL) said it will put in circulation on December 1, 2023 a new LL100,000 banknote bearing the signature of former Governor Riad Salameh and another one of the same denomination on January 2, 2024 bearing the signature of acting Governor Wassim Mansouri.

BDL said that the decision, which was taken in October last year, aims to boost its stock of banknotes and doesn’t affect the volume of the currency in circulation which only depends on its monetary policy.

The two issues of the new bills are similar except for the issue date which is July 3, 2023 for those bearing the signature of Salameh and August 1, 2023 for those bearing the signature of Mansouri.

The new notes have the same security features as existing LL100,000 bills which will remain in circulation alongside the new ones. They will be of a smaller size (135X66 millimeters) but of the same color and same design except that the number ‘LL100,000’ will be printed vertically.
