The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities (MoIM) signed a letter of intent with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for cooperating on the rehabilitation of Roumieh prison.

The project aims at rehabilitating the central building in the country’s largest prison so that it would be appropriate to accommodate the central services (kitchen, bakery, washing room, and heating machines).

“The SDC has the intention to provide the financial means of the project activities to be planned jointly between SDC and the MoIM,” said the statement of the Letter of Intent.

The actual plans for the project will be agreed upon through the technical agreement which would be signed later.
Throughout the project, the SDC shall release all payments directly to the contracted companies, with no funds channeled through the MoIM.
