The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a workshop under the Lebanon Business Linkages Initiative (LBLI). This initiative aims to build the capacity of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in agribusiness and tourism.

The program granted seven farmers recognition to start GLOBAL Good Agriculture Practices (G.A.P.) certification process. This certification guarantees the high quality products of these farms and opens European and international markets for their products.

The coordinator of the program, Nasser Lama, said that the project helped farmers connect with the agro-food manufacturers and the market. The seminar highlighted around 700 successful value chain connections between growers, manufacturers, packers, and exporters in the country.

LBLI introduced GLOBAL G.A.P. certification, in 2008, to grape and apple producers, packers, and exporters.
