Automobile sales saw a major rebound in 2025 with the number of new cars registered jumping by 63 percent to nearly 13,400 vehicles, their highest peak since the outbreak of the crisis by the end of 2019, according to figures by the Association of Automobile Importers (AIA).
The number of registered new cars still represents 41 percent of the precrisis amount in 2018 which totaled more than 33,000.
The increase was mainly driven by some improvement in both business activity and purchasing power resulting from salary adjustments, the modest resumption of car loans by some banks, and some revival in consumer appetite stemming from positive political developments such the election of a new president and the formation of a new Cabinet, said Salim Saad, advisor to AIA.
