CMA CGM Group has agreed to acquire 100 percent of Fattal Group, marking a major step in the French shipping giant’s strategy to expand its global logistics footprint and deepen its presence in the Middle East and North Africa.
The deal, signed between CMA CGM and Fattal shareholders, remains subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026.
The acquisition will see CMA CGM integrate Fattal’s extensive distribution network into its operations, strengthening its reach beyond transport and logistics into downstream markets closer to consumers. The move is part of the group’s broader ambition to position itself as a leading provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions.
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM, said that the acquisition is a key milestone in his company's development. He said that combining the two companies’ capabilities would support growth, reinforce the group’s position in fast-growing MENA markets, and enhance value for clients and partners. He also said that the transaction is a sign of continued confidence in Lebanon and a commitment to its long-term development.
For the Fattal family, the deal brings an end to more than a century of independent ownership. Founded in 1897 by Khalil Fares Fattal, the group has evolved into one of the region’s leading distribution platforms, operating across eight countries and covering sectors ranging from consumer goods and electronics to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Caroline Fattal, Chairwoman, said that after 130 years of stewardship, its company believes that CMA CGM is the right partner to carry the group forward. She expressed confidence that the new owner would build on the company’s legacy while maintaining its mission and supporting its employees, partners and communities.
CMA CGM, headquartered in Marseille, operates in 177 countries and is the world’s third largest shipping company, with a fleet of more than 700 vessels serving over 420 ports. The group has expanded significantly in recent years beyond maritime transport into logistics, air cargo and media.
Its logistics arm, CEVA Logistics, ranks among the top global players, managing a vast network of warehouses and handling millions of shipments annually. The group is also active in air freight through its CMA CGM Air Cargo division.
With the addition of Fattal’s regional distribution strength, CMA CGM is expected to further consolidate its position across the supply chain, particularly in high growth markets across the Middle East and North Africa.
