Phase one of the ‘Rehabilitation of the irrigation perimeter of Baalbeck’ completed

The Embassy of Italy announced the completion of the first phase of the project ‘Rehabilitation of the irrigation perimeter of Baalbeck’ on November 25th.

The project is funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Italian Cooperation for a total amount of 990,000 Euros ($1.3 million). It is co-financed by the Municipality of Baalbeck with 200,000 Euros ($265,000).

The project was launched in 2008. Its long-term objectives are to provide the infrastructure required for better management of scarce resources in the Baalbek region.

The project currently targets the rehabilitation of the irrigation perimeter of Baalbek, and the modernization of irrigation technologies. The objectives of the initiative are to economize water use, decrease water waste, and improve the produce of the involved farmers.
