The Minister of Energy and Water, Gebran Bassil, said that the first round of agreements for launching the ‘Jannah Dam’ project have been finalized.

The building of the dam, located in the area of Nahr Ibrahim (Mount Lebanon), will be undertaken by local company, Khatib and Alami, and French firm Sogreah.

According to Bassil, the project will be launched by the end of January. Bassil said that the first phase of construction works would kick start in May 2012, and the second phase of the project would begin in May 2013. The completion of this phase will take three and a half years.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $200 million, Bassil said. However, he did not specify the funding sources. The dam will enable the storage of up to 38 million cubic meters of water.
