Beirut Port sees improved activity
Incoming and outgoing containers up by 4.7 percent

Activity at the Port of Beirut saw an improvement in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period last year, according to statistics issued by the port authority.

Total tonnage of goods that passed through the Port of Beirut reached 1.63 million tons, up by 5.4 percent from the same period last year.

The total number of incoming and outgoing containers at the port reached 137,856 containers, up by 4.7 percent.

The number of containers that were transshipped through the port totaled 105,997, down three percent.

The number of ships that used the Port of Beirut in the first quarter of this year was down by seven percent to 493 vessels.
