Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a decree setting up a committee to achieve ‘sustained dialogue between labor partners’.

The committee will be chaired by the Minister of Labor. It will be tasked with formulating a unified approach to the demands raised by the various labor unions, as well as suggesting pertinent solutions for resolving these issues.

The committee will present its recommendations to the prime minister, in order to reach a consensual social accord between labor unions and the private sector economic bodies.

The committee will include representatives of the ministries of Finance, Public Works and Transport, Labor, Energy and Water, Economy and Trade, Agriculture, and Public Health. It will also include the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Beirut (CCIAB), Mohamad Choucair, the president of the Association of Industrialists (ALI), Neemat Frem, former president of the ALI, Jacques Sarraf, the president of the Beirut Traders Association, Nicolas Chammas, and vice-president of the CCIAB, Mohamad Lamaa.

The committee will also include the president of the General Confederation of Labor Unions, Ghassan Ghosn, and four other members of the GCLU.
