Value of cleared checks totals $22.8 billion as of end-April

The number of checks cleared by the Central Bank reached 4.16 million, worth $22.8 billion, in the first four months of 2012, compared to 4.13 million checks valued at $22.6 billion for the same period of 2011.

Checks denominated in foreign currencies rose by 1.6 percent y-o-y to $18 billion, while those denominated in lira dropped by almost two percent to $4.7 billion. The value of returned checks dropped by 12 percent to $504 million.
