The Association of Banks (ABL) called on the government, mainly the security forces, to step up efforts to restore and maintain security and order. “Insecurity and disorder would harm Lebanon’s reputation abroad and would ultimately impact the social and economic situation,” the ABL said in a statement Thursday.

The statement follows a recent spate of bank robberies. “The ABL condemns these criminal acts which are apparently carried out by mobs benefitting from the recklessness, or the weakness, of the State, with all its relevant institutions,” it said.
