The rehabilitation of the Amchit-Mayfouq road is due for completion by end 2013. The long-awaited project, which was launched in October 2010, is hoped would help reduce traffic accidents on that road.

Ramzi Kaldawi, project manager at the Council for Development and Reconstruction, said the road project covers the stretch of road from the entrance of Amchit, passing through the villages of Gharfeen, Hbaleen, Chamat, Obeidat, Beit Hbak, Hakel, El Kharba, Mayfouq, and down to Hadtoun. The scope of the project will also include several villages located along the sides of the main Amchit-Mayfouq road. The cabinet recently approved additional works as part of the project, including the work on the town entrance.

The overall project cost is pegged at around $22.9 million, to be financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. The project contractor is Batco, and the consultants on the project are Dar Alhandsa-NazihTaleb.
