The Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) launched a project funded by the European Union (EU) to support green initiatives in the construction sector.

The project will provide financing mechanisms for green initiatives in the construction sector.  Existing and new building projects planning to go green could benefit from zero percent-interest loans supported by the Central Bank. These buildings will also receive a grant from the EU worth around three percent of the loan amount. The project will also provide technical support such as capacity building, building codes, and training, among others.

The initiative is supported by the EU’s MED-ENEC project on Energy Efficiency in the Construction Sector, in partnership with the German firm Ecofys. The project proposal will soon be submitted to the Ministry of Environment. The initiative will be implemented between 2014 and 2020.
