CSR Lebanon, represented by its founder and CEO Khaled Kassar, was appointed as the local focal point of contact for United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the UN. This focal point is responsible for preparing to launch the Global Compact Local Network (GCLN) in Lebanon by 2014.

CSR Lebanon earned the title as a result of its dedication in raising awareness on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) locally and promoting the concept of responsible business over the past four years. Kassar will work with the UNGC to establish a governance structure for launching the initiative within the first half of 2014.

Launched in 2000, UNGC aims to promote ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. With 7,000 corporate participants and more than 2,000 stakeholder signatories from 140 countries, UNGC is the world’s largest CSR initiative.

The GCLN offers companies the opportunity to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including other businesses and representatives from civil society, government, academia, business associations, and investors. The GCLN in Lebanon is currently at its early stages of development with 13 participating organizations.
