A new waste sorting plant was inaugurated in the Southern village of Kabrikha. The plant, which stretches over 2,500 square meters of land, will benefit several villages in the surrounding of Jabal Amel. “The plant is expected to serve four municipalities: Toulin, Majdel Selm, Sawaneh, and Kabrikha,” said Ali Zein, President of the Union of Jabal Amel Municipalities. The plant has a capacity to sort 15 tons of waste per day.

The project was funded by the European Union through a $226,000 grant. Part of the equipment was donated by the Indonesian battalion in the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The Union of Jabal Amel Municipalities and the Ministry of State for Administrative Development also helped equip the plant.
