Public libraries in Lebanon: a novel phenomenon

The heavy rains that fell last Saturday (April 20th) in Beirut did not stop nine-year old Tia Albert Diab from leaving her home in Mar Mikhael and heading to the public library in the Jesuits Garden in Ashrafieh.

Drenched from head to toe, she told Al-Shorfa she did not want to miss the chance to attend events that are part of "A country that reads is a country that lives", a ten-day initiative organised by the Lebanese Ministry of Culture as part of national reading week.
