The Professional Computer Association of Lebanon (PCA) is currently preparing an action plan to push forward the draft law concerning electronic transactions and the electronic signature (e-signature). Jalal Fawaz, President of the PCA, said the file will be reactivated by mid-August, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Telecommunications.

“The e-signature is a necessity for all businesses in the evolved and highly digitalized business environment,” said Fawaz. Interest in investing in the local market by international businesses such as PayPal is an additional motivation to take serious action. According to Fawaz, accelerating activation of this technology could improve the local economy's competitive edge.

The draft law was already submitted to Parliament and awaits final approval. Fawaz said: “We should delay this issue the way the government did with the improved Internet bandwidth three years ago.”
