The Ministry of Finance announced that taxpayers will be able to pay their taxes online for the first time through commercial banks. The Ministry assured that all information provided electronically will remain secure and completely confidential.

The e-payment service will allow online tax settlement in one of two ways: Online transactions through taxpayers' electronic accounts at their respective banks, or credit card payments through the website of the Ministry.

Banks that offer this service will open dedicated accounts for their customers. Recorded fees and taxes will be collected and sent through SWIFT transfers to the Ministry’s account at the Central Bank. Taxpayers will be able to settle their taxes at their leisure, anytime, even on holidays.

Minister of Finance Mohamad Safadi said: “This measure will enhance transparency in the tax payment process, and save time for citizens by avoiding direct contact with employees.” He said that e-payments and inquiry services will open the doors for all the ministries, administrations, and public institutions to seriously consider e-government.
