The first outdoor public gym will open its doors on October 5. The gym will be located in the Wagon Public Park of Byblos

The project was realized thanks to a donation from Mars Lebanon, a subsidiary of the international chocolate company. Works were carried out in collaboration with the Byblos Municipality.

The gym will occupy a space of around 70 square meters. Total investment in the project is $100,000.

Wissam Zaarour, a member of the Municipal Council, said that Mars approached them looking for a public garden in which to establish their gym and allow people to exercise outdoors. Houssam Chehabeddine, Mars Levant Regional Director, said that the project is aligned with their CSR campaign. “Byblos is an attractive touristic city, and enjoys good media hype.”

Chehabeddine said that they are planning two similar concepts in Tripoli and Beirut. “Tripoli’s public garden will host a gym, whereas the Beirut gym’s location is still in the negotiation phase.” The Sanayeh garden is one possibility.

A total of 30 machines will be installed in the three gardens. Investment in each of the Tripoli and Beirut gyms will be around $50,000. Works will be completed in 2014.
