The foundation stone of the Qaissamani dam, located in Falougha-South Metn, will be placed on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. The Qaissamani dam will have the capacity to store one million cubic meters of water. Construction costs are estimated at $23 million.

“The Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) will fund the larger part of the three-year project,” according to Ziad Zakhour, Advisor for the Water Sector and Dams at the Ministry of Energy and Water. The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will finance the remaining cost.

Zakhour said the dam’s construction was awarded to the local contracting firm Mouawad-Eddé. A joint venture between the local LibanConsult AGM and the Kuwaiti Associated Consulting Engineers (ACE) will serve as the project’s consultants.
