Local mobile operator, Alfa, will test tomorrow the Voice over LTE, known as the VoLTE. LTE is an acronym for Long Term Evolution, commonly marketed as 4G LTE.

Marwan Hayek, Chairman and CEO of Alfa said that LTE is still being tested worldwide, and that Alfa will be testing one of the implementations of this technology, tomorrow. “We will try to make voice calls using the 4G network to prove that the network is so far ready to go further with this technology.” According to him, in most countries, calls were not achieved successfully using the 4G network, often interrupted and transferred automatically to the 3G network.

The test will take space in Terre Brune Hotel in Faqra. Hayek said that several LTE stations are now ready to cover a larger area.

“Commercial usage of this service will take a little longer, because not all mobile phone devices are 4G LTE-enabled, and a small number of the local population is subscribed to the 4G service.”

LTE is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. It is based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies, increasing capacity and speed. This generation offers a faster Internet connection, which makes data exchange and video calls easier.
