Aley Power Company was dissolved on February 22. All tasks related to the private company, owned by the Khoury family (and managed by Albert Khoury), have been handed over to the newly-formed Aley Power Concession Committee, made up of public employees.

The license of handling tasks related to power in the Aley caza was given to the private company in 1924 and ended on February 22, 2014.

Albert Khoury, Deputy General Manager of the Aley Power Company, said: “The decision to dissolve the company was suddenly issued by the Ministry of Energy and Water on February 21 in the afternoon.” No reason was given by the Ministry for not renewing the contract.

The committee is formed of 12 members appointed by the Ministry. Among the tasks it will take care of are receiving uncollected subscription bills and managing the concession.
Employees at the power company now work under the committee as well.

The company distributes power to more than 10,000 subscribers in Aley and its surroundings, including Souk el-Gharb, Bmekkin, Komatieh, Ain el-Saydeh, and Ain el-Remmeneh.
