The United States Embassy announced the commitment of the US government to expand its trade with local industrialists, following a statement issued by the embassy on March 3, after a meeting held at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon (CCIA-BML).

Mohammad Choucair, Chairman of the CCIA-BML said that the local market is profitable as it can offer plenty of opportunities for US companies. The US is one of the biggest importers of local products. It will support Lebanon’s reputation as a main business and trade partner.
Local imports to the US grew by 28 percent since 2009. The total number of imports exceeded $64 million in 2013. US imported more than $60 million yearly between 2010 and 2012. On top of the list are food products, clothes, and jewelry.

The US is working with local companies and individuals to facilitate access to international markets in order to increase the local exports worldwide. In 2012, USAID established a web portal to allow food industrialists to receive valuable data regarding international standards for exporting. USAID is also working with the Syndicate of Food Industries on preparing studies about the US and Gulf markets to understand the market needs in these countries.
