A public hospital will be established in Mayfouq, Jbeil. The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will manage the project and assign contractors. “There is shortage in public hospitals in this region, especially since the nearest public hospital is in Tannourine,” said Akram Karam, Project Manager at CDR.

Tenders for the project have been announced on March 13 to assign contractors, and the results will be announced during the upcoming months. The government will fund the project.

The hospital will have a total built-up area of 8,000 square meters. The total land area measures 15,000 square meters. The hospital will consist of four floors and will house 50 beds.

Construction is expected to start early in Summer 2014 and finalized two years later. Equipping of the hospital will take an additional year.

“Companies that are able to participate in the tender should be classified by the CDR, and they should have already built at least one hospital before,” said Karam.
