WorldBank: Improve your Broadband Services
Local internet services are poor, says a recent report
Prices of telecommunication services are ahead the global standards, said the report. The Telecommunications Ministry charges $1,350 per month for one Mbps of internet capacity compared to a charge of $223 per month for a similar capacity for the Istanbul–London connection, and $537 for the Frankfurt–Istanbul connection.
The listed factors are delaying the development of the sector, and reducing the ability of the private sector to compete on the regional and international arena. Also many international firms are departing the local market to other countries with cheaper prices and better quality.
The report said that the poor broadband services impact the country’s economic development negatively.
