The Litani River Authority (LRA) has launched the first phase of the Canal 800 project. It is financed by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD).

The overall cost of the project is estimated at $360 million. The first phase will be completed within three years. Water networks have now reached the Blat village.

KFAED will conduct a feasibility study concerning the second phase of the project to estimate its cost, timeline, and other technical details.

Canal 800 aims to convey around 120 million m3 of water to irrigate 1,500 hectares of agricultural land under 800 meters in elevation. The project covers 98 villages in Nabatieh, the Marjayoun plain, and South Litani all the way to the southern borders.
