Carrefour, a French multinational retailer, is planning to open a new branch in Cascada Mall in the Bekaa.

The leasing contract is in its closing phases, and parties are finalizing the deal. The branch will have more than 8,000 m2 of space. Alain Goanvec, Executive Regional Director Levant at Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour Hypermarkets (MAF) said that it is expected to open by Q2 2015.

The supermarket has launched its first local operation in Beirut City Centre in April 2013, with 8,000 m2 of shopping space.

“We are looking for opportunities to expand across the country, and we have an ambition to cover all the regions, starting with Beirut,” Goanvec said.

Majid Al Futtaim Retail, a subsidiary of Majid Al Futtaim Holding, under a franchise agreement, launched the first Carrefour hypermarket model to the Middle East in 1995.

Carrefour is one of the largest hypermarket chains in the world, with more than 10,000 stores in 34 countries. The chain operates in Europe, Argentina, Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. It has shops in other parts of Asia and in North Africa.
