El-Rihan, a poultry company, is planning to open an egg producing farm by the same name in AlKatrani, Jezzine, in 2015.

According to Wassef Haidar, from El-Rihan, a market study undertaken before launching this project showed demand for poultry products. Haidar said that the company chose to produce eggs only, as chicken farming requires specific technical knowhow.

The $3 million farm will be developed and modernized, gradually, according to Haidar.

“The target is to produce 150,000 eggs per day,” said Haidar. The farm will start with 40,000 heads of chicken in the beginning, and the number will increase gradually to reach 180,000 heads.

The project will be built on a 27,000 square meter plot, with a total built-up area of around 10,000 m2. The land has been purchased but the barns have not yet been built.

El-Rihan will initially distribute its products in the South and Bekaa regions and eventually throughout the country.

The farm is expected to create more than 50 jobs. A specialized veterinarian will follow up and control the poultry produce.

El-Rihan Company was established especially to operate this farm, with Sami Khatoun as the major shareholder. The company submitted an application to the Investment Development Authority in Lebanon (IDAL) to benefit from tax exemptions and incentives.
