The Ministry of Agriculture has approved the purchase of fruit trees from the Mashatel Lobnan Association.

This step is part of the ministry’s effort to support local nurseries and their sustainability. Sleiman Smaha, Chairman of the Mashatel Lobnan Association, said: “The Ministry will purchase the trees from local nurseries that conduct tests on the trees and their soil, at the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institution laboratories on a regular basis.”

This project will boost diversification in the agricultural production sector, and help farmers in introducing new agricultural types rather than the conventional ones.

Mashatel Lobnan produces around 1.2 million fruit trees, annually. This amount covers around 80 million square meters. The association said that the local trees compete with the European ones in quality and prices.
