The Council of Ministers approved a loan agreement to increase and enhance the quality of the drinking water supply in Zahle and its surroundings.

The project will consist of developing a 4.7 km-long main transmission pipe from the Berdawni Spring to water treatment reservoirs in Zahle City. Five artesian wells will be excavated and six water reservoirs will be constructed. Around 20,000 households will benefit from the project. Distribution networks will also be restored and replaced.

The $20 million works will be financed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).

The project will provide clean drinking water to households in Zahle al Maalaka, Ksara and others.

The project is expected to be completed in 2017. The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will supervise and select the contractors for this project.
