$18 million fund to support host communities

Four UN agencies to benefit

The UN Central Emergency Response Fund has allocated $18 million to support emergency projects in local communities hosting Syrian refugees.

The support will be used to provide health, water, wastewater, hygiene, and food safety services to around 297,000 vulnerable Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian individuals.
Most of the funds will be used in the Bekaa, Akkar, and the North, the areas considered most affected by the influx of Syrian refugees.

The World Food Program (WFP) will receive $4 million to provide food assistance to vulnerable Syrian refugee families with children under the age of five and another $1 million for vulnerable Lebanese affected by the Syrian crisis.

The United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) will receive $5 million for primary and secondary health interventions in the North and Bekaa.

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) will use $1 million to provide critical health support for conflict-affected Palestine refugees from Syria in Lebanon.

The UN International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) will receive $6 million for emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene response.
