The first phase of the Kounine Community Center mixed-use project is being finalized in the village of Kounine in the Bint Jbeil caza.

The project is owned by the Union of Bint Jbeil Municipalities, whereas the land is owned by Kounine Municipality. The project is financed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). “The first phase was financed through a $3 million donation by KFAED,” said Alain Cheaib, Civil Engineer at Rafik El Khoury & Partners, responsible for the design and supervision of the project.

The project is established over a 66,000 square meter plot. Works started three years ago. The first phase features a hotel with a private swimming pool, a commercial and retail area, F&B outlets, event venues, and an educational center. The second phase includes a gym, a theater, and a health club.

According to Mohamad Bazzi, Engineer of the Union of Bint Jbeil Municipalities, the center will be a private-public partnership. “The project is waiting for the Union to assign a private operator to open the center officially,” he said. The remaining parts of the project will be completed as soon as the Union finds a funding party.
