YTL Power Services, the Malaysian operator of the Zahrani and Deir Amar power plants, launched restoration works on the only steam turbine in the Zahrani plant.

The turbine’s rehabilitation maximizes the plant’s performance and reduces technical loss. The control room will also be upgraded. German Siemens and French Alstom are the project contractors.

“Rehabilitation is being conducted by 100 technicians and will be completed by the end of August,” said Bobby Berchmans, Logistics Manger at the YTL Power Services.

The Deir Amar power plant will undergo the same overhaul next October. “Rehabilitation works will take up to three months,” he said.

Last year, YTL Power Services restored four gas turbines in each of the two plants, extending their lifetime by 13 years and reducing maintenance cost by $40 million annually.
