The Ministry of Finance has launched a support project for needy villages through its Régie department, the state-controlled monopoly.

The Régie will make grants of around $30,000 for each village, during 2015. The funds will be used in development projects such as lake irrigation systems, agricultural training centers, artesian wells, and new roads.

According to Abdel Mawla El Mawla, Manager of the Leaf Department at the Régie, around nine needy villages will benefit from this project.

The benefitting villages are located in the North, Bekaa, and South. A center for agricultural training will be established in Qoleiaat. A potable water reservoir will be built in Donniyeh. An irrigation network will be constructed in Chlifa, Baalbeck, and an artesian well in Haouch Tall Safiye in Baalbeck.

In Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, and Tyr, new roads will be built to reach new farm lands. Artificial lakes will be created in Marjayoun to increase irrigation coverage.

The projects will be implemented by their respective municipalities.
