The United States Embassy announced this month that it has provided an additional $37.5 million to fund university students through the USAID University Scholarship Program (USP).

The USP has provided, since its launch in September 2010, scholarships for approximately 1,000 students to study at American-style universities, such as the American University of Beirut (AUB), the Lebanese American University (LAU), and Haigazian University.

This announcement will allow at least 320 additional students to access education at any of these eligible universities. US total investment in the USP program reached around $100 million over the past 5 years.

The USP is one element of the US Government’s assistance to education in Lebanon. More than $180 million have been provided through USAID since 2010 to renovate public school buildings, provide public school teachers with English language proficiency courses, and equip schools with science laboratory and computer equipment.
