Excavation works for a new building to be added to the medical school at Saint Joseph University (USJ) have been launched. Construction works will be finalized in late 2018.

Engineer Raymond Iskandar Najjar granted $12 million to construct and equip the building. It will have a total built-up area of 16,000 square meters.

The building will be adjacent to the historical Faculty of Medicine and will be harmonized with the traditional style of the old building, including green landscapes.

The Faculty of Medicine comprises around 1,500 students. The new expansion does not aim to increase the faculty’s capacity, but enhance the quality of education. This will be achieved by introducing new educational technologies such as virtual education. All departments will be computerized and modern libraries that operate on fiber optics will be established. Classrooms will be built with new techniques that comply with the modern educational requirements.

USJ is also in the process of building an underground parking lot in the campus, which will have the capacity to accept 200 cars, thereby preventing cars from entering the campus.
