This airport won’t fly

More than 20 years ago the late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri embarked on what he believed to be a project of the utmost importance: the modernization of Beirut’s airport.

In the wake of the Civil War the capital’s once-proud airport was a crumbling, rudderless embarrassment, and Hariri wanted to build a new one that could host 6 million people a year.
