Achkar said that the tourism industry should be isolated from any internal factors that might hamper its growth, including the municipal elections.

He called on political parties to agree on delaying the elections till after September when the holy month of Ramadan starts and tourists and vacationers return to their countries to celebrate this time of the year with their families at home.

Achkar said that the municipal elections scheduled to take place starting May, may reflect negatively on the owners of tourism enterprises- outside the capital, and in the mountains who take advantage of the summer season to welcome tourists.

Achkar said that any decision that doesn’t take into account this proposal will effect negatively on the tourism industry which is one of the key sectors for the national economy.
