A total of 42 Expressions of Interests (EoIs) were received by the Ministry of Energy and Water for the generation of 300 megawatts (MW) of wind power.

This is the second round of the tender to develop wind farms. The first was won last year by Hawa Akkar, Sustainable Akkar, and Lebanon Wind Power for the production of 200 MW.

The new EoIs, according to the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC), include companies from 21 different countries, with local firms leading the way, followed by companies from the United Arab Emirates, China, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

The bidders include big names such as Siemens, General Electric, and Ramboll. Siemens has entered into four different consortiums: One with local contractor Almabani, another with Danish Ramboll and local contractor Hammoud Establishment for Trading and Contracting, a third with local company BATCO, and one with local company EcoSys, part of ITG Group.

Areas targeted for the development of wind turbines include Akkar, Bekaa, Mount Lebanon, and the South.

LCEC will share a detailed Request for Proposals (RFP) document with the 42 bidders. The RFP will include all the criteria, conditions, and specifications to be met by bidders.

The RFP will be announced during the International Beirut Energy Forum 2018 to be held in Beirut from 26 to 28 September 2018.

The second round of wind power EoIs received almost double the number of interested bidders than the first round.
