Touch, the mobile telecom operator, held its first local 5G technology commercial test.

A virtual reality video call was the first element of the test, among two other components. A bandwidth test was run, where 16 high resolution videos were played simultaneously. The last was a speed test, in which 1.5 Gbps of data were transferred.

The 5G network is significantly faster, offering more than 100 times the broadband of 4G, according to Emre Gurkan, Chief Executive Officer at Touch. Latency, or delay time, will be reduced to just fraction of a second.

Various vertical industries will benefit from the 5G network. Gurkan said that this technology will enable data-intensive technologies, such as the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, which are anticipated in the next 3 to 5 years, Gurkan said. Data from 1 million devices in an area of 1 km2 can be easily collected and analyzed.

Although the 5G network is not yet ready for public use, Huawei sells mobile stations that offer businesses the benefits of 5G advances, said Tarek Abdel Sater, Vice General Manager at Huawei Technologies.
