The Ministry of Industry is preparing a more stringent safety inspection program for food manufacturers. Those that meet the criteria will be given a quality seal.

A specialized team from the ministry will visit factories to assess their compliance with food safety standards set by the ministry.

The team will review factory premises, the cleanliness of machinery and workers, and whether they have the proper medical certifications. The factories' water will be tested, as well as their end products, which will be tested by the Industrial Research Institute.

Factories that comply with the ministry’s requirements will be given a quality seal, said Mounir Bissat, Secretary General of the Syndicate of Food Industries in Lebanon.

“The project aims to encourage food industrial factories to improve the quality and competitive edge of products, guarantee food safety, and enhance the image of the factories,” Bissat said.

The ministry’s certification will be good for one year, and will be renewed following a successful inspection.
