Part of Port of Beirut will be made into a supply base for the consortium that will explore two of the country’s offshore blocks for oil and gas, said Walid Nasr, Chairman of the Lebanese Petroleum Administration (LPA).

A tender will be launched during this month to select a service company to lease space and manage the supply base for the consortium of Total, ENI, and Novatek, which plans to begin exploration this year.

Total, the consortium’s operator, will conduct the tender. “Total will determine the conditions and we will oversee their implementation,” said Wissam Chbat, LPA board member and head of the geology department.

The supply base will have an overall area of 10,000 square meters, according to Chbat.

“The base will host all preparations and support all offshore operations, from pipes and casings, to storage facilities,” Chbat said.

The service company will be charged with developing non-permanent structures such as a mud mixing plant.
