Before closure, the plant, primarily located in Akkar, has been manufacturing and supplying pipe systems to local buyers, and to overseas markets for around 16 years.

More than 400 workers were dismissed from their duties, and are now left jobless. Those workers have visited on Monday, the Governor of the North, Nassif Kaloush, to hand him a Memorandum with their demands.

“More than 400 families are now threatened of homelessness,” said Abbas Al Badn, who spoke on behalf of workers. Badn called on the Minister of Labor, Boutros Harb, and other officials to "rapidly intervene to find a solution for the crisis and help the workers secure their rights."
