Teachers have been boycotting the correction of the official exams of 44,000, grade-12- students for the last 15 days, demanding an upgrade in their salary levels.

But yesterday’s deal, which has been inked under the patronage of Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, consists of providing teachers with only two third of the total seven degrees that they have demanded. “This deal is a settlement,” said Hanna Gharib, the head of the Syndicate of Teachers.

Public official-exams committees, and teachers approved on friday this settlement in a General Assembly and correction of official exams is expected to be resumed on Saturday, teachers have explained.

The Minister of Education, Hassan Mneimneh, said he hopes “teachers will quickly resume correcting exams so results can be announced, as promised, on time.”
