161-beds to meet large demand in the area
Excavation works for building the Lebanese Medical Center have been launched in Kafaat, Hadath.
The National Association for Higher Education in Lebanon (NAHEL) has gained a license from the Ministry of Public Health to build the hospital. Construction work will be completed within three years.
Dr. Bilal Shoumar, Dr. Ali Ghosn, Ali Berro, Noha Ammar, Ahmad Bahja, and Ali Fahes are members of the association , which owns the hospital.
The total built-up area of the hospital is 20,000 square meters (m2) to be built on a 6,000 m2 land plot.
Investment in the construction and the hospital’s medical equipment is estimated at $40 million, excluding the cost of the land.
The 161-bed hospital will consist of five underground floors, and six above ground floors.
The hospital will have a specialized center for cancer treatment, with radiotherapy and chemotherapy department, as well as five operation rooms, an emergency care center and intensive care units.
According to the decree published in the Official Gazette, there is need for 2,300 hospital beds for the Southern suburbs, Hadath, Shoueifet, Khalde, which host up to 800,000 people, while the available number of beds does not currently exceed 1,530. The average number of beds required for every 1,000 people is 2.88.
There is also large need for emergency care and intensive care units.
