The first stage of a control and monitoring project for Lebanon’s Electricity, (EDL), was completed 15 days ago and the system is operational. Kamal Hayek, the director general of EDL, said that the project offers online monitoring of the electricity passing on the power lines throughout the distribution network. It can also allow monitoring the amount of electricity that is drawn from the Syrian and the Egyptian grids. Hayek said that the control system also offers a chance to reduce waste through the use of a Power Application Software, which helps in allowing a more efficient management of electricity. The control and monitoring project was financed by the Arab Social and Economic Fund, and it was implemented by the Council of Development and Reconstruction, (CDR), he said. The second stage of the project is scheduled to be completed in November, he said.
